BALL, David James, Former Member, 1929-2010 James Ball of Midland, formerly of Kitchener, an architect in the K-W area, passed away peacefully at Georgian Bay Hospital in Midland. He was 81 years. Loving husband of Joan. Most dearly loved father of Thomas of Midland, Michael (Susan) of Keswick, Jonathan (Michael) of Geneva, Switzerland and James of Toronto. Much loved Papa to his grandchildren, Kathleen, Sarah, and Justin. Survived by his sister Angela Deveau of Kitchener. Pre-deceased by his parents Clarence and Mary Louise and brother Larry. Jim was a former member and past president of the Ontario Association of Architects - Grand Valley Chapter. He formed the architectural firm Horton & Ball in 1959 with Tony Horton, friend and fellow classmate at St. Jerome's High School. They joined with the engineering firm Walter, Fedy, McCargar, Hachborn in 1971. Architecture was his profession, wood working and books were his hobby, his family was his life. Jim was a member of St. Margaret's parish in Midland. A memorial mass will take place at St. Teresa's Roman Catholic Church in Kitchener (corner of Edwin and Leonard Streets) on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the church hall. Huronia was an integral part of Jim's life where he was a part time resident for over 30 years before moving to Midland 10 years ago. A memorial get-together will be held at a later date in cottage country, his Shangri-la, the area he dearly loved. If desired, as an expression of sympathy, a donation to the Saint John Soup Kitchen or the Out of the Cold program would be greatly appreciated and can be arranged through Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, (519) 745-9495. Life is real! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal; Dust thou art, to dust returnest, Was not spoken of the soul. Longfellow
